Megan McPherson
Founding Director
Megan is Hope Street’s founder and managing director, having established the organisation alongside Chris & Jan Barker.

Megan realised the need for Hope Street during a visit to ORA‘s Uganda project in 2011. She is closely involved with the field-work in Uganda and works in partnership with ORA New Zealand.

Jan Barker
Founding Director
Jan and her husband Chris are co-directors of ORA New Zealand, supporting and monitoring several ORA projects worldwide. They have been involved with aid and community development work for 19 years, firstly in Tajikistan and later in Uganda and Moldova.

Jan has a medical, business and administrative background, so brings a combination of business and administrative skills to the table.

Jan shares with her husband the responsibility of ORA New Zealand representative on ORA’s international body, the ORA Network. Jan is the lead administrative executive for ORA New Zealand and Hope Street, and is also the ORA New Zealand board secretary.

Matt Comer
Director
Matt has been a director of Hope Street since June 2012. He works as a financial consultant and has 15 years experience in assisting businesses with major projects and investment decisions.

Matt is currently pastoring Piha Community Church with his wife Julia and is on the board of trustees of Christian Surfers New Zealand. He led the Christians Surfers Central & West Auckland group for six years and has previously been a board member of YMCA Auckland.

Briar Charmley
Director
Briar joined the board in 2017 and brings legal expertise to the table. She is a lawyer practising in Auckland, having returned in 2015 after almost nine years away. Prior to this Briar spent a year in South Asia working for a NGO in the areas of anti-trafficking and anti-slavery, a year at the University of Cambridge (UK) completing her masters in international law, and six years working as a lawyer in Wellington. Briar is happy to be back in her home town and we at Hope Street are very pleased to have her!

Phil Whitechurch
Director
Phil is married to Wendy with three children and two grandchildren. He is a co-director of Legacy Farms Ltd, an intensive dairy farm in the Waikato.

Phil‘s first introduction to Africa was with a ministry, ministering to Ugandan Pastors in 2001 & 2003. Since then he has been to other African countries and each time a part of his heart is left with them.

Phil is on the Hope St Board as well as the ORA NZ Board and also as an international representative on the ORA Ugandan Board.

Lillian Tabu
Project Director, Uganda
Lillian is a senior social worker who manages Hope Street‘s Uganda project together with Tom Edobo. She oversees the quality of care of the children, registration and communication with local regulators, community engagement, sustainable initiatives, and project finances.

Lillian also works for ORA Uganda as a social worker. She is a founding member of Hope Street’s Uganda project and is a key driver of the project‘s development.

Lillian and her husband Steven have two biological children and several foster children.

Tom Edobo
Project Director, Uganda
Tom is a social worker who manages Hope Street‘s Uganda project together with Lillian Tabu. He lives on the project campus and is the primary caregiver for children residing on site. Tom manages child progress and welfare, new intakes of children, and campus development.

Tom reports monthly to sponsors and to the Hope Street New Zealand board with information on the children‘s wellbeing, project development, and finance. He is a founding member of Hope Street’s Uganda project and is a key driver of the project‘s development.
