Meet Ivan

Ivan is on the ORA Uganda sponsorship programme and was previously sponsored by an organisation in Austria. Unfortunately, the organisation ceased sponsorship in 2022, leaving 35 children without sponsors. Our local partners, ORA Uganda, have continued providing for these children in the interim, in the hope that new sponsors will be found. This is putting immense financial strain on the organisation. Ivan is still without a sponsor, here’s his story.

Ivan joined the sponsorship programme in 2019. He is currently in Primary 5 (equivalent to NZ year 5). Ivan is proactive and disciplined in his studies. While many children often change their desired career paths, Ivan has consistently expressed his ambition to become a doctor since joining sponsorship. Ivan has faced his own medical challenges, including malnutrition, illness, and hygiene issues. These struggles have sometimes isolated him from other children in the community.

Ivan is described as playful, cooperative, and supportive by his grandmother, who is his guardian and primary caregiver. Ivan tragically lost his father in an accident, and his mother abandoned him, resulting in emotional struggles and trauma beyond imagination. Unfortunately, his grandmother is now facing declining health. To assist her, Ivan has taken on additional domestic responsibilities, including gardening, cooking, and caring for their animals. Despite these hardships, Ivan expresses gratitude, stating, “Thank you for supporting my education and health.”
