Meet Samatha

Samatha is on the ORA Uganda sponsorship programme and was previously sponsored by an organisation in Austria. Unfortunately, the organisation ceased sponsorship in 2022, leaving 35 children without sponsors. Our local partners, ORA Uganda, have continued providing for these children in the interim, in the hope that new sponsors will be found. This is putting immense financial strain on the organisation. Samantha is still without a sponsor, here’s her story.

Tragically, Samantha lost her father to cancer. He was the primary financial support for her family. Samantha’s immediate family were left with nothing, as her father’s relatives seized authority over their land and rejected them. Her father’s passing not only brought immense emotional pain but also shattered her family’s hope for the future. Compounded by the pandemic, Samantha’s mother lost her job in 2020, placing the family in a vulnerable financial position.

Despite these adversities, Samantha’s resilience shines through. Described as friendly, kind, and intelligent, Samantha excels in her studies through dedication and hard work. Despite currently being in primary 5, equivalent to NZ year 5, Samantha dreams of becoming a civil engineer.  Whilst Samantha’s academic performance declined after the death of her father, the opportunity that sponsorship provides has restored both her hope and grades.
