Meet Teopista

Teopista is on the ORA Uganda sponsorship programme and was previously sponsored by an organisation in Austria. Unfortunately, the organisation ceased sponsorship in 2022, leaving 35 children without sponsors. Our local partners, ORA Uganda, have continued providing for these children in the interim, in the hope that new sponsors will be found,. This is putting immense financial strain on the organisation. Teopista is still without a sponsor, here’s her story.

Teopista’s father passed away suddenly, leaving her mother to care for nine children on her own. Financial challenges have affected the family as her mother, earning less than NZ$25 a month, struggles to support them. Throughout her community, Teopista is consistently described with one word – humble – by her teachers, guardian, and community. Despite their hardships, she is cherished by her community. Teopista expresses love for her home, her mother, and her siblings.

In her free time, Teopista enjoys playing netball, singing, and gathering firewood. Described as humble, friendly, and playful, she is currently in primary 5 (NZ year 5), with aspirations of becoming a nurse. Due to financial hardships, Teopista is the only child from her family in school. Sponsorship is giving her hope that she can realise her dreams of becoming a nurse and securing a brighter future.

Teopista sends her gratitude to sponsors “God bless you, stay safe, thank you for helping us.”
